A man was shot to death in Springfield Tuesday evening.

Springfield police say they were called to HSHS St John’s Hospital at 6:52 p.m., and the coroner says the 25-year-old man died 55 minutes later.

Police say the shooting happened in the area of Seven Brothers Grocery at Eleventh and Laurel Streets.

We know the name of the man killed downtown over the weekend.

The coroner says it’s Dearius Jones, a 32-year-old resident of Springfield, the victim of a gunshot wound outside Wet Bar on Fifth Street early Saturday. This is under investigation.

Arrest in Tuesday homicide

Springfield police late Tuesday announced an arrest related to an early morning shooting death in the 1400 block of North Eleventh Street.

The coroner said Willie Evans, 29, Springfield, was pronounced dead around 4 a.m. Tuesday, shortly after he arrived at HSHS St John’s Hospital.

Police say Martin Brown, 26, Springfield, is charged with being an armed habitual offender, possession of a firearm by a felon, and possession of a stolen firearm.
