Lucas Otto was just twenty years old when he was tragically killed in a car accident on June 30th, 2022.
One month later, his team, the Springfield Lucky Horseshoes, celebrated Lucas’s life and honored his memory at Robin Roberts Stadium.
“It was the fun thing about Lucas,” said Jamie Toole, the team’s Chief Storyteller,” that he seemed to be able to connect with people whether over baseball, football, sports or life.”
Lucas’s family was on hand for the tributes, with his father and younger brother each throwing out a ceremonial first pitch prior to the game.
“Having the extended Otto family here is really, really special,” Toole said. “And certainly Steve and Melissa, his parents, it’s really special to bring them back and celebrate what an awesome human being Lucas is.”
