Chicago police say a suspect is in custody after officers investigating a report of a missing person discovered human remains inside a freezer in a boarding house.
Brendan Deenihan, chief of detectives of the Chicago Police Department, told reporters Tuesday that the home’s owner, a 55-year-old woman, is believed to be the victim.
The remains were found Monday evening. Deenihan says a suspect who lived in the boarding house on Chicago’s Northwest Side was taken into custody.
The suspect has declined to speak to detectives about the slaying. The remains were found after a resident of the boarding house filed a missing persons report for the building’s owner.
