The Illinois Commerce Commission has greenlighted the city of Springfield’s plans for the Carpenter Street underpass project.
The ICC approved preliminary plans and will pitch in nearly $5 million toward the total $20 million pricetag. Ward 5 Alderman Sam Cahnman says the city will be on the hook for $1 million.
“This whole project is about a $20,6 million project,” says Ward 5 Alderman Sam Cahnman. “The city’s contribution is relatively small compared to the entire cost of this thing.”
The city’s contributions would fund preliminary design work, utility realignment and land acquisition. Groundbreaking is expected summer 2014.
