Some Illinois inmates will be given the opportunity to learn the skills needed to join the clean energy workforce once released. Governor Pritzker announced Tuesday that $6 million will be provided to the Returning Residents Program. It will cover training, education and support services to Illinois Department of Corrections inmates who are within three years of their release.
It is part of a larger program aimed at growing the clean energy workforce in the state through the Climate and Equitable Jobs Act. Upon completion of the program, participants will advance to the job-specific training portion of the curriculum to receive solar PV training or HVAC training, with an energy efficiency focus.
