The Illinois Secretary of State says more than two dozen driver’s license stations would close unless lawmakers extend a temporary tax increase.

Jesse White’s comments are the latest from Democrats who are pushing to make the tax increase permanent before they expire in January. Gov. Pat Quinn backs the plan.

White’s office say they would have to lay off about 200 workers, reducing his agency’s budget by about 10 percent.  White didn’t say which branches would close. He also said he’d scale back library funding and stop sending renewal notices for licenses and vehicle stickers
