The Illinois State Museum partnered with the Hispanic Women of Springfield and the University of Illinois Springfield Diversity Center to host Family Day to celebrate Día de los Muertos.

Día de los Muertos, which translates to Day of the Dead, is a holiday that originated in Mexico and is celebrated on November 1 and 2. It is a celebration of loved ones who have passed away. Día de los Muertos is also observed in other Latin American countries and by people of Latin American descent.

The event featured a variety of activities like face painting, dance performances, and traditional food.
