A career prosecutor with nearly three decades of experience, Greg Harris is the new U.S. Attorney for the Central District of Illinois. He’s the first Black person to hold that post.
Confirmed by the U.S. Senate in December, Harris’s ceremonial investiture took place Friday at the Old State Capitol where he pledged fairness and compassion but said, “No community should live in fear of violence.”
Harris, who vows his office will vigorously prosecute illegal gun crime, has already been tapped by U.S. Attorney General, Merrick Garland, to serve on the A.G.’s advisory panel.
