The man whom some say is the front runner for the GOP nomination for governor said a little about abortion Monday.

Aurora mayor Richard Irvin held a news conference that was supposed to be about the governor’s handling of the covid outbreak at the veterans’ home in La Salle. Instead, the questions were about a subject Irvin was silent about last week – the possibility of the Supreme Court overturning Roe v Wade.

“Listen, I’m pro-life,” Irvin told reporters in Aurora. “But as it concerns that leaked draft document, until we get the final decision from the Supreme Court, I think it’s irresponsible for us to hypothesize and speculate as to what that outcome will be”

Nor did he want to talk about a possible law codifying whether abortion should be legal, nor about whether he’s ever voted for Donald Trump.

Irvin is one of five Republicans in the June 28 primary.
