The Springfield School Board wants more organization, fundraising and outreach from parent’s group Invest in 186 before it will consider a push for a property tax hike on this year’s ballot.

Katharine Eastvold of Invest in 186 says… right back at you.

“Really what’s keeping this from really taking off is the board has not told the community where they stand,” Eastvold said.

At least one school board member, Board President Chuck Flamini, said at Monday’s meeting he wants a revnue increase because the district needs it. But both he and interim superintendent Bob Hill knows a referendum on the 2014 ballot won’t pass unless there’s significant community support.

The group says continuous budget cuts, uncertain state funding and siginficantly depleted reserves make the picture clear: more revenue is needed.
