At least one sector of the local economy seems to be turning a corner; that’s according to Capital Area Association of Realtors president Steve Myers.
More homes were sold last month in the Springfield area than any other previous month. Myers says much of the activity in the real estate market can be attributed to a lousy winter.
“We believe that these numbers reflect the passing through the system and the process of all the pent-up demand that was stifled somewhat by the winter weather that was extreme,” says Myers.
Myers says 470 homes were sold in June, an almost 29-percent increase over June of 2013. Myers says even though interest rates are creeping up, people are still buying homes and says that indicates increasing confidence in the economy.
