The Legacy Pointe sports complex cleared a major hurdle Monday – with the Springfield public school board, on a 5-2 vote, approving a letter of intent granting the sports complex a tax abatement in exchange for some use of the sports facilities.
The district’s Jason Wind responded to a board member who wonders why District 186 needs the sports complex, given all the construction around the district, including gyms and outdoor fields:
“We are going to be able to offer a football / soccer field at Memorial Stadium, along with a track. In terms of basketball and those things, there will be a larger field house, but they will still have a limited number of courts where practice will be held. In terms of baseball and softball, those fields do not exist in terms of AstroTurf.”
Board members Erica Austin and Micah Miller voted No.
