A visit by discount chain Dollar General executives Thursday left Jane Addams Elementary School staff nearly speechless.

District Manager Tom Barding presented a check for $40,000 after an anonymous person nominated the school. The school can use the money any way it sees fit for literacy material and equipment.

“That money, there is no contingencies on it. They can do what the want with it to help out the school and the children” says Barding.

Principal Jennifer Hudson is thrilled and says her staff already has a wish-list. Dollar General stores solicit donations and employees around the country while reviewing applications from parents and educators.

This check was one of the largest Dollar General has ever donated.
