The company that makes Weber grills is building a global distribution facility in Huntley.

Gov. Pat Quinn attended the groundbreaking for the Weber-Stephen Products facility. “It really is magnificent to see Caterpillar tractors developing this site. Caterpillar is another iconic Illinois company, but I’m here to say that I don’t own a Caterpillar tractor, but I do own a Weber grill,” he said.

This will be a 750,000-square foot facility, allowing Weber-Stephen to consolidate distribution locations that are now in Texas, Florida, Pennsylvania and Nevada.

Illinois incentives: $4.2 million. This is supposed to create 120 jobs in two years, and retain 479 jobs currently in Huntley, and bring in 50 jobs from other states. The location was made more attractive by the completion last year of an improved interchange between Route 47 and I-90, at a cost of $59 million.

The company is based in Palatine, and does the bulk of its manufacturing in Illinois.
