District 186 high schools enter the third week of having metal detectors. The school board was told Monday some predictable wrinkles accompanied the start of the practice, but things are settling down now.

“We are definitely getting into the flow a little more,” said Southeast student Passion Hood, who will be the student representative to the board next year. “You get passes now if you are late for checking in. They are definitely a lot more understanding. The violence has decreased a lot; I haven’t seen any physical fights or arguments in the last three weeks.”

Administrator Jason Wind told the board students are getting used to taking their computers out of their backpacks before going through the detectors.
