After repeatedly turning down a proposal to turn much of the Wyndham hotel into apartments, the Springfield city council Tuesday approved another downtown residential proposal.

“The location of the building has the underground parking right underneath the Old State Capitol, so parking will be ideal,” developer Aaron Acree told the council. “I think this is a great location for residential apartments – being in the heart of Springfield,  you’ve got the medical district close by, so i don’t think filling the apartments will be a problem.”

The rood had fallen in on the building at Fifth and Adams, on the Old State Capitol Plaza. The building will have nine units and comes with the help of $562,000 the council approved in tax increment finance money.

The vote was 8-0, with Alderwomen Erin Conley and Kristin DiCenso absent.
