Springfield will have a new set of eyes and ears at the Capitol.

Aldermen will vote Tuesday to hire Jessica Basham (pictured) for $75,000. She had a career of about two decades in the speaker’s office, culminating in serving as chief of staff for Speaker Chris Welch (D-Hillside).

Basham told aldermen her job would include “flagging things that I see that could have a measurable impact on the city, whether that be positive or negative.”

The final vote is next week. The city had employed GR Consulting, fronted by Larry Luster and former State Rep. Art Turner Jr.
