Right about now, Ray Long probably wishes he could add another chapter to his book.
The longtime Chicago Tribune political reporter is the author of “The House That Madigan Built,” which comes out March 22. Madigan was indicted March 2 in an alleged scheme to use his positions as House Speaker, Democratic Party of Illinois chair, and property tax appeals lawyer to enrich himself and people around him.
After decades as speaker, where did Madigan go wrong?
“There were folks that he depended on that, when they failed him, dating back to the #MeToo scandal among his aides, that weakened him.”
Followed by his identification as Public Official A in the Commonwealth Edison case,
Long says his book is more perspective and analysis than it is revelation, but the real story is how Madigan – who served fifty years in the House, 36 as speaker – amassed power in a way Long says should stand unmatched.
