The drive continues to get the Lincoln Depot … where the Great Emancipator made his Farewell to Springfield … onto the National Register of Historic Places.

Organizers are pushing anew to get the old two-story, brick Great Western Depot the historical designation, given Lincoln’s speech there in February 1861.

Current owners Jon and Pinky Noll reopened the ground floor to the public a year ago, and the upper level is home to Noll’s law office. Retired city historian Edward Russo is preparing the formal application for the national register.
