Lincoln Library held a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Wednesday afternoon to inaugurate “Inchy”, the new automated book vending machine.
Mayor Misty Buscher and Ward 5 Alderwoman, Lakisha Purchase, and members of the mayor’s Youth Council were among the dignitaries on hand for the celebration of what library director, Gwen Harrison called, an innovative way for young readers to start building their own library.
Kids can earn tokens in a variety of ways such as on their birthday, upon reading a certain number of books or other achievements. The tokens can then be used to ‘purchase’ a new book from the colorful vending machine which is then theirs to keep.
Operations Manager, Denise Fischer, says she isn’t sure how many books will be given away, but she hopes keeping the machine stocked is a good problem they’ll have to deal with.
