Springfield’s budget hearings are over, giving members of the city council about a month before they have to decide on something.

Ald. Jim Donelan, who chaired the council’s hearings, says they will do their own research:

“We are each individually going to sit down w the department of public works and hear what the department’s goals are for the individual wards as far as street overlays and sidewalk improvements and even water line improvements. This gives us an opportunity to say to the staff, well, what about this street over here, because we often have a pretty good pulse on what the needs are in our individual wards.”

The council will vote Feb. 20 on the budget for the fiscal year that begins March 1.
