Republican Regan Deering of Decatur, seeking the open seat in the new 13th Congressional District, has picked up the endorsement of the National Federation of Independent Business.

The NFIB said Deering’s opponent, Democrat Nikki Budzinski of Springfield, did not fill out the group’s questionnaire.

Deering spent about a decade owning a franchise of Huntington Learning Center and said during a news conference Friday that the labor shortage is real.

“The Bulid Back Better Act and a lot of the legislation and funding that has come out of this administration has, in fact, made it easy for those to stay at home, and we’re not seeing a return to the workforce, especially as far as women are concerned,” she said. “We have rising child care costs that are making it a challenge to decide between getting back to work or finding an alternative for your children.”
