The Sangamon County Sheriff’s Office has identified the man who sent two deputies and an Illinois Secretary of State police officer to the hospital.
Sheriff Wes Barr says DeCarlos Benton of Rochester was also taken to the hospital for observation but is now in the Sangamon County Jail.
They were injured as they tried to transport Benton to an ambulance after a hit and run accident Tuesday when he became combative. Barr says he is still awaiting toxicology results.
Benton has yet been charged.
