The museum held a grand party starting with activities for kids including readings, performances, music, magic and crafts.
Later museum officials took the opportunity to announce the ALPLM had gained national accreditation by the American Alliance of Museums, an honor only earned by 3.2 percent of American museums.
Mayor Buscher was on hand to speak to the crowd as was Ward 5 Alderwoman, Lakeisha Purchase. Governor Pritzker sent along a videotaped message.
The event was capped by confetti cannons, a reading of the proclamation by the ALPLM’s Joe Crain and a giant cake in the shape of the museum itself!
