The Sangamon Valley Landfill still has life to it according to an annual survey.

Allied Republic General Manager Dan Winters says the annual rate of fill is holding steady or dropping because of the growing popularity of recycling.

“We completed our audit last winter and we determined we have 14 years of capacity left,” says Winters. “We also have plenty of options for expanding our capacity.”

This past year, an average of 24-tons of recycleable materials went to  recyclers instead of the landfill every day.
