Mayor Jim Langfelder Tuesday night responded to a city public works employee who is Black who says white people seem to get all the opportunities.

“We try to do workforce development,” said the mayor. “That’s why we are going to be coming with a housing initiative to teach the crafts. And how do we teach the crafts? It’s within a house. You have electric. You have plumbing. You have labor work and it’s teaching an individual all those different crafts and that would be a pre-apprenticeship program”

Numbers show diversity is strong in public works management. Curtis Yokem, who is Black, attended Tuesday’s council meeting to say there is no room for advancement for a driver who is Black.
