Springfield Police are encouraging residents and businesses to register the locations of their outdoor video surveillance systems with the Springfield Police Department as part of their “Project Safe Neighborhoods.”

The program allows residents and businesses to work with the department when an incident occurs; police can identify the locations of nearby video cameras and enlist the community’s assistance to help officers collect video evidence and follow up on leads.

Accoording to our newspartners at WAND-TV the Springfield Police Department insures they will not have access to any cameras or security system. Project Safe Neighborhoods is for information purposes only.

According to the Department, if footage is needed, a secure link will be provided to the resident by a third party vendor working with the Springfield Police Department. Any footage will be uploaded by the resident and reviewed by the Springfield Police Department for ongoing investigations.
