There’s enough in this for everybody – smooth roads to navigate, new bridges to cross, and plenty of ribbons for politicians to cut.

It’s a six-year, $8.6 billion, 1845-mile road plan unveiled Wednesday by Gov. Pat Quinn and Illinois Department of Transportation secretary Ann Schneider.

The Springfield area will see of the share of the plan to include I-55 and I-72 resurfacing and bridge repair, resurfacing of Illinois 125 to Illinois 97 and, funds to purchase new buses for SMTD.

The dollars come from sources that include the motor fuel tax and gambling and are subject to continuing appropriation.
