Gov. Pat Quinn has signed a plan that will allow Illinois voters to cast ballots on Election Day, have more time to vote early and not be required to bring photo identification to vote early.
The new law only applies to the November election. Sponsors say they want a trial run but do want to expand it beyond. County election officials say spots to register on Election Day will be limited to specific locations.
Some Republicans have criticized the plan, saying it’s an attempt to lure Democratic voters to the polls. Quinn and other top Democrats have dismissed those claims. Ten other states allow same-day voter registration.
