While Sangamon County’s public health director, in a three-page letter posted here, threw significant shade on advocacy groups, it’s evident there is tension between the county and Illinois Humane, one of the main complainants about shelter conditions.

“What has also gone on too long is the way they try to blame the volunteers for all the problems out there, and, unfortunately, they are doing that again in this case,” the organizations president, Jane McBride, told WTAX News. “It’s egregious the way they are characterizing the work with the volunteers.”

Is McBride confident the county will get this right?

“I’m very concerned.”

County public health director Gail O’Neill informed county board members Monday she had dismissed Greg Largent over unsatisfactory leadership and management, adding animal advocacy groups are intentionally lying about the shelter.
