The state report card for District 186 is good in some ways and not so good in others.
Principals from four schools spoke to the board Monday. Board member Buffy Lael-Wolf praised them for telling their stories, warts and all. But Lael-Wolf later referred to the need for improvement as “turning this Titanic around,” invoking a disaster that killed 1,496 people.
“We’re not a sinking ship,” superintendent Jennifer Gill said after the meeting, cautioning people not to read too much into a “snapshot” that the report card provides, especially in only the second round of testing since the pandemic.
