UPDATED – An early morning fire has left one person dead. Riverton Fire Chief Louie Rogers says firefighters from Rochester, Dawson and, Sherman assisted in battling the blaze that began around 4:30 Thursday morning in the 1500-block of Old State Route 36 outside Riverton.
A family of three lived in part of the multi-family structure; two were able to get out but a woman was trapped and died. A young child was seriously injured.
Riverton Fire Chief Louie Rogers says more than 50 firefighters were on the scene.
“We had mutual aid assistance from Dowson, Rochester, Sherman and the Sangamon County Rescue Squad” says Rogers.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
