State Treasurer Dan Rutherford has acknowledged that allegations against him involve harassment and asking an employee to do campaign work on state time.
But the Republican candidate for Illinois governor says the claims made against him by a member of his staff are “absolutely” untrue.
Rutherford spoke Monday during a meeting of the Chicago Tribune’s editorial board. Asked about the allegations, he said they are part of an independent investigation his office has launched. He later confirmed the statements to The Associated Press.
Rutherford last week accused GOP rival Bruce Rauner of being behind the employee’s claims, which Rutherford at the time declined to detail.
Meanwhile, the Chicago Sun-Times reports the employee behind the allegations has resigned. The man asked his name not be used yet.
