Two Sangamon County Sheriff’s deputies are being treated after an altercation Tuesday afternoon during a traffic stop.
Sheriff Wes Barr says the driver of the car had fled the scene of a previous accident and was eventually pulled over at 32nd and Keys Avenue.
He hit a utility a pole and then fled on foot. The deputies were injured after the suspect became combative while they were trying to put him in an ambulance. The suspect is being evaluated at the hospital as well.
Barr says it appears the 20-year old was under the influence of a substance but he is awaiting toxicology reports.
