Aldermen Tuesday unanimously approved Ken Scarlette as police chief, succeeding the retired Kenny Winslow.
Scarlette likes to say he has had only one full-time employer in his life – Springfield police. He is a 24-year veteran of the force and has most recently been assistant chief. Mayor Jim Langfelder selected Scarlette from among the five members of Winslow’s command staff.
Scarlette thanked the aldermen, promised citizens he and the force would work hard, thanked his mother for instilling Christianity in him, and also paid tribute to his wife and two daughters.
