Springfield, IL – (wtax.com) Recent actions by the Springfield City Council are a sign that the development of the SCHEELS Sports Park at Legacy Pointe is going as planned. That’s according to Ryan McCrady with the Springfield Sangamon Growth Alliance on the WTAX Morning Newswatch. McCrady says, “That’s the way the development agreement is set up. There has to be continual check-ins and check-backs with the developer and future actions by the council.” He says these check-ins are safety nets because you don’t just want to “give somebody carte blanche to just run forward with the project.”
In the fall, McCrady says crews were able to do the top surface excavating and compacting for the dome. Now that it’s warmer, crews will be able to start the next step. McCrady says development is still on target to host games in late 2024 with full-scale operation in place by mid-2025.
