A proposed change to next year’s school calendar will come with a cost.

Springfield District 186 Business Manager Joe Bascio says by adding an additional four days to the schedule, transportation costs will go up.

“Expenditures are expected to increase by about $547,000 to about $9.6 million.  That is due to a 4% increase in the contract this year and there is an additional expense for the  four additional attendance days ” Bascio told school board members Monday night.

School board members will vote on next year’s budget in June.  Bascio says uncertainity over state education funding continues to make the district’s financial position precarious.

Board members must also negotiate with the teachers’ union on a new contract.
