Long-time Sherman Police Officer Phillip Brown and the village have come to terms on a simmering labor dispute.
According to Brad Schaive, business manager for the labor union representing Brown, the 55-thousand dollar plus settlement is the best possible outcome for the village and its residents who were divided on whether Brown should stay on the force.
“Any time we can get that over with and let him returning to being a husband and a father, that is what we want,” says Schaive.
Attorney Don Craven, representing the city, says it came down to money. “It was a very simple economic decision. It would have come down to multiples of dollars they already paid to defend themselves,” Craven told WTAX News.
Brown will serve a seven days unpaid suspension and the village will pay the union’s legal bills. He was accused of misusing a patrol car, losing a department-issued weapon and, insubordination.
