Some Springfield aldermen want to slow down the number of video gambling licenses the city issues.
Ward 6’s Cory Jobe says he is not against gambling but he wants to stem the number of “storefront” operations that are popping up.
“Once you get your liquor license and upon renewal of that liquor license and you have gaming machines, you must prove that 60-percent your gross revenue sales are derived from the sales of beverage, alcohol, and food” Jobe says.
The city council will soon discuss an ordinance to change local requirements for a video gaming license. There are nearly 400 terminals across the city that have collected almost a million dollars since November 2012.
Jobe says he has the support of Alderment Frank Edwards, Doris Turner, and Gail Simpson.
