Other than a mechanical delay keeping the plane in Florida, it was all smiles Friday morning at Abraham Lincoln Capital Airport for the inauguration of Breeze Airways’ service to Tampa and Orlando.
And airport authority chairman Frank Vala (pictured, right) had an eye on the calendar.
“All you children out there than want a Christmas present,” said Vala, “be sure and tell your mom and dad that you can fly straight to see Disney.”
But seriously, folks, Vala said airline service will only stay if people continue to buy tickets. And a Bloomington family of six took advantage of the opportunity with a weekend getaway to the Magic Kingdom.
Phil Mikalik and his wife are taking two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren had tickets for the first southbound flight. He said a fellow passenger told him about the Springfield-Orlando service while he was on an Allegiant Air flight from Sanford, Fla., to Bloomington.
