Thanks to the generosity of two local companies, a local non-profit organization received a much needed donation.
Sojourn Shelter, which provides a safe haven to abused women and their children, struggles like most non-profits to make ends meet. The shelter was selected as October’s recipient of needed items as part of Springfield Clinic’s “GIVE75” campaign celebrating the clinic’s 75th anniversary. A washer and dryer were delivered by Dick Van Dyke Applicance World to the shelter that serves 10 families almost every night.
Sojourn CEO Angela Vertoni is relieved and points out they are always looking for clothes, toiletries and, other typical family supplies.
“We rely heavily on any small grants we can find but we also rely on donations from everyone the community,” says Vertoni
Springfield Clinic CEO Randy Bryant says it important to give back to the area after being able to serve them for 75 years but it is difficult to select a recipient each month.
“There are so many organizations and non-profits so it is challenging,” Bryant says. “We are going to figure out a way to continue this after this year.”
As it turns out, Sojourn’s washer broke down just before the new units were delivered.
