Springfield’s embattled Deputy Police Chief, Cliff Buscher, is stepping down.
It’s unclear why. City spokesman Nathan Mihelich, in a conversation with the State Journal Register, couldn’t say whether his abrupt retirement had anything to do with the ongoing police document shredding scandal that centered around internal affairs files on Buscher. The scandal caused the city’s former police chief and city attorney to step down.
Calls to both Buscher’s cell phone and office went unreturned. A message at Buscher’s downtown office says he’ll be out until January 13th, his retirement is effective January 14th.
