An 18-year-old Springfield man accused of home invasions and sexual assaults of women more than 60 years old has been indicted by a grand jury.

A Sangamon County grand jury indicted Tevonne Thomas. He is charged with home invasion, aggravated battery and attempted aggravated sexual assault in an Aug. 7 break-in. He is also charged with home invasion and aggravated sexual assault as well as residential burglary in two Aug. 8 incidents.

Thomas broke into a home, put a gun to the head of a woman older than 60 and demanded money and sex, authorities said. Police say the woman’s daughter came into the room and scared Thomas away.

He forced his way into a house the next day and sexually assaulted a 70-year-old woman.
Authorities didn’t issue a public warning about the possibility of a serial rapist in Springfield because there were differences between the incidents and police weren’t initially sure that the same person was responsible.
