One alderman says the Springfield Police Department’s request to purchase 40 new squad cars is excessive. Alderman Joe McMenamin says the department has plenty of vehicles.
“I am 100-percent behind take-home police cars,” says McMenamin “But we have plenty police cars.
Police Chief Kenny Winslow told the city council Tuesday night the $1.3 million request is to replace high-mileage, unreliable pursuit vehicles. The council ultimately approved the purchase. The cars could be hitting the streets in January.
