Some police officers across Illinois could soon be wearing body cameras to record their interactions with the public.
Springfield Mayor Mike Houston is considering spending $200,000 next budget year.
“Chief Winslow has wanted the personal cameras for his officers. It does two things for us; it protects the public and it protects the police offcers,” says Houston.
Houston says the camera initiatives started before a police officer killed Michael Brown last month in Missouri. Springfield is in the process of putting dash-mounted cameras in new police cars.
