A Springfield woman was in Cleveland for Game 7 of the World Series, and says the Cubs victory is hard to put into words.
Nichole Heyen says she’d tell you how she got a ticket for the game, but…
“My husband really has not told all the details. We probably need to follow up with that,” says Heyen. “He knows my love of baseball. We went to a few postseason games last year. We didn’t get as far as we had hoped last year. This was always kind of on my wish list.”
Bucket list or not, Heyen says she’s always been pretty frugal, so she might not have opened up her wallet herself.
Nevertheless, she says the atmosphere — even in Cleveland — was amazing.
“I would say in the section we were at, I would say at least 85 to 90 percent were Cubs fans,” says Heyen. “They were just kind of mixed throughout. It really seemed like it was all Cubs fans.”
That is, Heyen says, until the couple of times Cleveland got close to taking the lead, then you could hear how passionate those fans were about their team.
Heyen’s grandfather, after military service, managed a few Cubs farm teams. He also played for the Cubs for a time, after being drafted to the team at age 18.
