SPRINGFIELD – The St. John’s Breadline dining room will be reopening for indoor dining starting Monday, May 2 from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. every day. Guests will be able to use for the first time newly installed automatic handicap doors generously donated by an anonymous donor. The Eisenberg Take What You Need will also be opening.
The St. John’s Breadline closed indoor dining in compliance with state mandates. Since that time, they have continued to serve daily “to-go” meals out the door.
The return to indoor dining will require additional volunteers. Anyone who is interested in volunteering can contact Harris at sharris_stjb@cc.dio.org or 217-523-6098.
Food donations can be dropped off seven days a week from 7:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The Breadline is covered under the Good Samaritan Act which provides liability protection for food donations. “We will accept food donations from gardeners, farmers, restaurants, caterers, food trucks, leftovers from weddings, we use all of it,” said Harris.
To make a monetary donation to the Breadline, make checks payable to St. John’s Breadline and mail to 430 N. Fifth St., Springfield, IL 62702.
Catholic Charities St. John’s Breadline has been serving the community since 1928. Open 365 days a year and providing anywhere from 300 – 400 meals a day, the Breadline is a lifeline to not only the homeless, but to many people who are on fixed incomes or have various disabilities.
