The standoff between Blue Cross Blue Shield and Springfield Clinic continues, and now state legislators are getting involved. Springfield Clinic’s Chief Brand and Advocacy Officer Zack Kerker, appearing on the WTAX Morning Newswatch, says Illinois Senators Doris Turner and Steve McClure and Representatives Sue Scherer and Mike Coffey sent a request to the Illinois Department of Insurance asking the government to do more. He adds that Scherer and Turner have asked the IDOI to consider stopping the sale of the Blue Cross Blue Shield insurance plan.

Blue Cross Blue Shield was fined after Springfield Clinic providers continued to appear as in-network in provider directories. Blue Cross Blue Shield issued a statement to WTAX News regarding the provider directory.
BCBS Statement:
Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois continuously updates and validates the information in its provider directory. For instance, providers are appropriately listed as in-network if they’re in Blue Cross Community Health or Blue Cross MMAI, even when they are out of network for other plans.
If a provider is also affiliated with another facility or medical group, the provider will be listed as in-network with that facility or medical group. This information, including the locations and addresses where a provider offers in-network services for a particular plan, is displayed on the provider directory.
Any members with questions about their providers’ status in their plan should contact BCBSIL Customer Service using the number on their member ID card.
