State Senator Doris Turner has announced 5 transit providers in Springfield and Decatur have received more than 2.2 million dollars to offer public transportation options to the public.

The grants are awarded through the Consolidated Vehicle Procurement Program administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation.

The vehicles are for public transporation providers as well as non-profit organizations serving seniors and inviduals with disabilities.

Senior Services of Central Illinois and SMTD are among the organizations who will receive a portion of the grant money.

Turner says it’s an investment in communities and the people who live there.
