Following a disruption by the Faith Coalition for the Common Good, State Senator Steve McClure (R-Springfield) hosted a town hall meeting in the clubhouse at Piper Glenn Golf Course Wednesday night.

Sangamon County Sheriff Jack Campbell, State’s Attorney Dan Wright, and State Rep. Sandy Hamilton were among those on the panel.

Questions and comments from the public touched on topics of personal safety to what will happen to current county jail inmates on January first when the SAFE-T Act goes into effect, should it be judged to apply retroactively.

Senator McClure said there’s bi-partisan support from State’s Attorneys across Illinois for clarifying the law’s language and that those clarifications should be made during the fall veto session.

Members of the Faith Coalition for the Common Good fear Republicans are really aiming to dismantle the legislation altogether and, with it, years of work by their group and others.
